BC’s TheTyee.ca cleans up at COPAs

The first-ever Canadian Online Publishing Awards sees B.C. news and culture site take three wins, while FashionMagazine.com and DailyXY.com take one win each.

Website publishers, writers and developers gathered at the Gladstone Hotel last night in Toronto to celebrate the 18 awards given out at the first-ever Canadian Online Publishing Awards, presented by Masthead magazine.

Big winners of the evening included independent B.C.-based news and culture website TheTyee.ca, which took home Best Website Design, Best News and Best Community Feature. St. Joseph Media also took home three awards as publisher, with nods for FashionMagazine.com (Best Video), 20MinuteSupperClub.com (Best E-Newsletter) and TorontoLife.com (Best Overall Magazine Website).

The awards were given in out two categories, Red and Blue, which divided along category lines, such as consumer (red) or trade (blue), to make comparison easier. Over 250 entries were received and the finalists in each of the 10 categories were reviewed by a panel of judges made up of industry professionals and experts.

Other winners in the consumer category included DailyXY.com for Best Overall Online-Only Website, and GranvilleOnline.ca for Best Article or Series and Best Blog.
