Gift Wrap: CBC counts down 12 days of Christmas with online magic

Network running 12 holiday-themed webisodes on its site leading up to the premiere of Greg Frewin Magic Man: Home for the Holidays, a one-hour magic special on Dec. 9.

Who doesn’t love a little Christmas magic? CBC and Toronto-based Frogwater Media are offering viewers a taste of the real thing with a series of 12 Christmas-themed magic webisodes leading up to the CBC premiere of the holiday special, Greg Frewin Magic Man: Home for the Holidays.

The webisodes are currently running on Frewin’s own site and on the CBC holiday site. A new one-to-two minute episode is running in each of the 12 days leading up to the premiere of the holiday special.

‘Each magic trick is inspired by the 12 days of Christmas,’ Tim Troke, CEO and executive producer, Frogwater Media, told MiC. ‘He works with doves, rings, cards, ropes and even a tin of food as he encourages folks to donate to their local food bank during this holiday time.’

The series was devised as part of the promotional campaign for Home for the Holidays and is accompanied by a ‘watch and win’ contest offering viewers the chance to win a trip to Niagara Falls to see Frewin perform live. The contest is supported by promotional partners The Sterling Inn, Niagara Parks, Kaneff Golf, and The City of Niagara Falls New Years Eve Extravaganza. The webisodes are primarily being promoted through social media and PR.

Greg Frewin Magic Man: Home for the Holidays debuts at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 9. It follows Frewin as he and his family juggle life in the entertainment biz – themed around the holidays – and as Frewin prepares for a ‘Grand Illusion’ involving the Falls.
