Showcase.ca gets zombie fever

The channel site has signed on for an exclusive, web-only comedy starring Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder. Sponsorship opps are available.

When they’re not out eating people’s brains, zombies will soon be found on Showcase.ca, where they star in Woke Up Dead, a new web-only comedy vehicle for Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jon Heder.

The new series of five-minute episodes will appear on the Showcase website starting Feb. 1 and will run three times a week until the end of March. There will be 22 episodes in total.

Targeting 25- to 54-year-olds, the series follows Heder’s character Drex, who wakes up one day to find himself transforming into a zombie. He discovers that being dead is not so bad, as his boring job and stalled love life suddenly heat up.

The web series will be supported with on-air promotion, created in house by Canwest, on Showcase. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, which would include branding on both online and on-air advertising, a spokesperson for the network tells MiC.

‘Woke Up Dead is a perfect fit for Showcase.ca,’ Chris Harris, director, online content, Canwest Broadcasting, said in a release. ‘It’s hilarious, outrageous and it complements the existing line-up of top-notch original video content available on our site.’

Woke up Dead first appeared on Crackle, a US-based, Sony-owned site.
