American Idol climbs to the top

The Stanley Cup Finals come in a close second place for the week according to BBC Canada ratings, with 3.164 million viewers.

Here are the top-ranked shows in Canada (for all persons 2+; all times ET), according to BBM, for May 24 to May 30, 2010.

Monday: The NHL Playoffs on CBC took top spot with 3.031 million viewers, shattering the ratings domination CTV’s The Big Bang Theory had the previous week with 2.72 million viewers.

Tuesday: American Idol on CTV at 8 p.m. stayed on top this week with 2.884 million viewers tuning in to the performance show. Idol had 2.484 million fans the previous week.

Wednesday: American Idol managed to beat its biggest night of the week by a long mile thanks to a star-studded season finale – this week the talent show results episode attracted 3.328 million viewers as the most popular program of the week. Idol earned 2.647 million viewers in second place the previous week.

Thursday: Whatever happened to Thursday? With the end of Grey’s Anatomy and Survivor, what is (formerly known as) the most popular night on TV didn’t even make it into the ratings top 10 this week. CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance 7 attracted 1.567 million viewers as the top program of the night at 8 p.m. Last week Grey’s Anatomy heart attack-inducing finale on CTV had 3.014 million viewers.

Friday: CTV Evening News at 7 p.m. was most-watched of the night with 1.373 million viewers. The NHL Playoffs on TSN was the highest-rated program the previous week with 1.332 million viewers.

Saturday: Stanley Cup Finals on CBC at 8 p.m. reached second place this week with 3.164 hockey fans tuning in to the game. The NHL Playoffs were ratings winners the previous week as well with 2.204 million viewers.

Sunday: CTV National News at 11 p.m. attracted 1.202 million viewers on the weekend. The NHL Playoffs won the previous week with an audience of 2.204 million.
