Dan For Mayor finished slightly ahead of its timeslot counterpart Hiccups as the homegrown comedies saw their first seasons come to an end Monday on CTV.
Dan, with Corner Gas‘s Fred Ewanuick in the titular role, generated 516,000 viewers at 8:30 p.m., preceded by Hiccups – featuring Gas creator and star Brent Butt and his wife and fellow Gas regular Nancy Robertson – which concluded the season with 498,000 viewers. By comparison, the 2004 season one finale of Gas nabbed 1.3 million viewers without the added benefit of PPM. (All numbers 2+.)
Hiccups had a slightly higher season average with 849,000 viewers, followed by Dan with 783,000.
Both comedies were off to a promising start back in March, each premiering to 1.9 million viewers after heavy promotion by the broadcaster during the Vancouver Winter Olympics. CTV decided to preempt both Hiccups and Dan during May sweeps, and the comedies began airing the remainder of their first-season episodes in June.
The broadcaster has already greenlit a second season for Hiccups and Dan.
