Postmedia posts first numbers

The network of former Canwest LP websites has posted its best-ever traffic in its first full month of business.

It appears that the Postmedia digital portfolio is doing just fine on its own, posting its best-ever numbers in its first month under its new ownership.

The network of websites, which include Canada.com, NationalPost.com and Dose.ca, recorded a collective reach of 7.9 million unique visitors in August 2010, Postmedia’s first full month of business since launching in July. It is the highest traffic recorded by the mediaco, which was formerly under Canwest ownership.

‘This strong showing reinforces our digital-first strategy,’ said Malcolm Kirk, EVP, digital media, in the release. ‘The growth we saw in August was led by our newspaper websites which were up 32% in the past year.’

The company has been touting a new ‘digital-first’ strategy since it formed this summer, a content strategy that will put digital in the driver’s seat across its print and web properties. The early growth shown by the web properties indicates the company is moving in the right direction, Kirk commented in the release.
