Call it the Ricky Gervais effect. The 68th annual Golden Globes found its biggest audience in seven years on Sunday, pulling in 3.2 million viewers (2+) for CTV – a 9% growth over last year.
CTV is also boasting double-digit growth in the A18-34 (+27%) and A18-49 (+19%) demos, with nearly 10 million viewers tuning in for some part of the broadcast.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that year-over-year viewership in the US was flat, with NBC attracting 17 million viewers for the broadcast, a repeat of 2010’s broadcast.
Also notable for the network was the fact that CTV’s E! Entertainment Television coverage from the red carpet snagged an extra 207,000 viewers for the two-hour pre-show, the biggest audience for the channel since its recent launch.
