An ad by Rethink Vancouver for non-profit Children of the Street Society claimed Best in Show honours at the 2011 Crystal Awards, an annual showcase that recognizes the best creativity in radio advertising. The hard-hitting spot, ‘Anonymous’ was created by Rob Tarry and Lisa Lebedovich and is part of a cross-platform push aimed at deterring predators from soliciting sex from children online.
The award, presented by Astral RadioPlus, Canadian Broadcast Sales, CHUM Radio Sales and Target Broadcast Sales, were given out on March 10 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Thirty-one awards, including Gold Crystals were given out in 10 categories. ‘Anonymous’ also won a gold for agency single. Dory Advertising, St. John’s won gold in the campaign category for Nuderm, ‘Bikini Day, Permanent, No Longer There’.
Other gold winners include Juniper Park, Toronto’s ‘Stepping’ for Walk Without Fear Foundation (Public Service Announcement), McDonald’s ‘Station Flipping’ from Cossette Communications, Toronto (Creative Use of Sound/Music), CHUM Radio Ottawa’s ‘Stuff In A Box for Patafie’s (Performance), Newstalk 1010’s ‘G20 Cage Match’ by Astral Toronto (Station Promotion – Single) and Corus Radio Toronto’s ‘The Stafford Show’ for AM640 (Station Promotion – Campaign).
