BBM Overview: New PPM Ratings

Bray & Partners president David Bray breaks down which radio stations are on top in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary.

As we wait patiently for warmer weather, the radio landscape is heating up with the latest PPM radio ratings. Today’s radio release from BBM completes the 13-week period covering Nov. 28 to Feb. 26. This marks the tenth 13-week period in the new era of measurement for Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers.

Toronto: Bragging rights at the top of the ratings heap go to CHFI-FM with a 15.8% share of hours tuned for A12+ (up from 13% last time out). CHFI’s numbers were dramatically boosted for the December portion due to the popularity of its all-Christmas music programming during that period.

CHFI-FM remains #1 with the ladies 25-54, posting a 19.9% share (up from 17.3%) followed by CHUM-FM with a 17.0% share (up from 16.6%). Q107 fell to the #2 spot for males 25-54, posting a 10.6% share (down from 12.4% in the last 13-week book). This would seem to be a consequence of CHFI’s Christmas programming which left them in the unusual position of #1 for the M25-54 demo with an 11.8% share (up from 8.3%). The Edge holds a substantial edge over the competition with M18-34 turning in with a 19% share (down from 20.4%). For F18-34, CHFI-FM tops the list posting a 23.5% (up from 18.9%) share followed by CHUM-FM with a 13.6% (down from 14.4%) share of hours tuned.

Vancouver: Due to the popularity of its all-Christmas music during December, 103.5 QM-FM grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with a 12.4% share of hours tuned (up from 11.1% last time out). Taking the top spot for F25-54 was perennial office station favourite 103.5 QM-FM, posting a 19.6% share (up from 14.7%). The Team 1040 holds the lead with M25-54 listeners, delivering a 10% share (up from 7.7%).  The FOX remains at the top of the list for M18-34 with 18.9% share of hours tuned (up from 17.1%) followed by the Beat 14.1% (down from 16.1%). When it comes to females 18-34, QM-FM takes top spot with a 19.6% share (up from 13%).

Edmonton: CISN Country rules the roost for A12+ posting a 10.1% share of hours tuned (up from 7.9% last time out). CISN Country also takes top spot for F25-54, delivering an 11.6% share (up from 8.6%). NOW! tops the list for M25-54 with a 12.6% share (down from 12.9%). For M18-34, 102.3 NOW is out in front delivering a 17% share (up from 15.3%) followed by Sonic 102.9 with a 13.7% share (down from 15.3%).

For M25-54, CJAY92 leads the way with a 12.3% share (up from a 10.2%). X92.9 takes top spot for M18-34, posting a 14.7% share (up from 9.9 %) followed by CJAY92 with a 14.6% (up from 12.4%).
