StyleList launches in Canada

The AOL Canada site is kicking off with content from Canadian contributors, including guest editor Joe Mimran.

AOL Canada has launched a Canadian version of its beauty, fashion and style site StyleList, with the kick off of StyleList Canada.

Launching a Canadian version of the site was a “no brainer” for the media co, because of the number of visitors coming from north of the border to the US site, Rashida Jeeva, general manager, AOL On Canada, tells MiC. The US version of StyleList saw 185,000 unique visitors from Canadian addresses in February, according to comScore numbers provided by AOL Canada. She adds a French version of the site, StyleList Quebec will launch within the next month.

Jeeva says the bulk of content on the Canadian site (approximately 70%) will come from contributors north of the border, with the rest of the pieces being curated from the “best” of the US site.

StyleList Canada will be edited by Sarah Kelsey, formerly of Huffington Post Style, and will feature launch content including pieces from Joe Mimran, founder and creative director of Joe Fresh who is operating as a guest editor on the site.

The site will also have a list of Canadian “style council contributors”, including bloggers like Michelle Bilodeau and Rachelle Saevil of Front Row Mag, Jane Daly of Daly Beauty, Gloria Chik of UrbaneBloc and Cee Fardoe of Coco and Vera who will provide original content assigned by StyleList Canada editors as well as content from their blogs.

Advertising opportunities on the site include traditional digital ads as well as branded content opportunities, with the site’s content lending itself well to brands posting pieces on topics like where to find certain items of clothing. The target audience for the site is adults aged 18 to 45, says Jeeva.
