2010 Canadian Young Lions winners announced

The Globe and Mail-sponsored contest today revealed the eight winners who will represent Canada at Cannes in June. Agencies rep'd include DDB, John St. and Rethink.

They busted their butts on a tight deadline to create top-shelf work for Parkinson Society Canada and now eight bright young Canadian advertising professionals are on their way to Cannes to compete against the world at the 2010 International Young Lions competition.

The winners of the Globe and Mail Young Lions Competition were announced this morning, and out of a record 187 entries, eight have made it to the final round in Cannes.

The winning teams include Scott Maddox of Rethink Vancouver and Mike Felix of Cossette West in the print category; Kyle Lamb and Andrew Livingston of John St. in Toronto in the film category; Sarah Bradley and Megan Blackburn of Yahoo! Canada in the media category; and Yusong Zhang of DDB Toronto and Tal Wagman of Saatchi & Saatchi Toronto in the cyber category.

The competitors, all under 28 years old, battled to create ads or media strategies for Parkinson Society Canada, a registered charity that supports Parkinson’s research and support in Canada. Each team had an allotted time to create their ad: 24 hours for print, cyber and media, and 48 hours to create a 30-second commercial for the film category.

The winners will travel to France for the international competition June 20 to 26, during the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

The media jury was chaired by Sunni Boot, president, CEO, ZenithOptimedia, and the Print, and Cyber and Film juries were chaired by strategy/Media In Canada executive editor Mary Maddever. Jury members for the competition included:
