Andrew Johnson and Barbara Shearer join Shaw Media

Citing ratings gains from reality series like Canadian Pickers and Outlaw Bikers, the broadcaster bolsters its factual content division.

Shaw Media is bolstering its factual programming team by hiring former CBC commissioning editor Andrew Johnson and producer/director Barbara Shearer.

Johnson, a former CBC exec on The Lens and the documentary series The Passionate Eye, and Johnson, whose TV credits include Tabloid History, Outlaw Bikers, Canadian Pickers and What’s in a Name?, both become production executives at Shaw Media’s content division.

“Andrew and Barbara have each achieved tremendous success in Canadian television and we couldn’t be happier to welcome their unique skills and expertise to the team,” Christine Shipton, VP of original content at Shaw Media, said in a statement.

Johnson and Shearer will join a factual production team at Shaw Media that includes director Lisa Godfrey and senior director Sarah Jane Flynn.
