The Russians are coming (to Vancouver’s AM 650)

The Astral Media-owned radio station will broadcast Russia's Autoradio live during the Olympic Games, a media effort to promote both the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games and Vancouver's Russian community.

When listeners to Vancouver’s AM 650 radio tune in to the ‘all time favourites’ station on Feb. 12, they might be a bit surprised when Russian pop music fills the airwaves instead of Bryan Adams.

The Astral Media-owned radio station has brokered a deal with Russia’s Autoradio, which covers over 300 cities in Russia, to carry its broadcast live from the Russian House in Vancouver for the duration of the Games. The broadcast will be carried simultaneously in Vancouver and Russia, and will carry both Russian-language music and radio shows as well as Canadian artists.

‘This authentic cultural exchange highlights the diversity and global unity that is at the heart of this great city of ours,’ Brad Phillips, VP and GM of Astral Media Radio, said in a release. ‘We are excited to be able to do this for the Russian community in Vancouver and also share the best of Vancouver with new listeners in Russia.’
