The Trailer Park Boys alumni will be back in 2010 on Showcase with The Drunk and On Drugs Happy Funtime Hour, a half-hour comedy series the network says is a ‘innovative mix of narrative and sketch comedy.’
The show has been green-lit for six episodes that will debut next fall. It will star former Trailer Park Boys actors Mike Smith, Robb Wells and JP Tremblay and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson. The series will follow four characters that accidently get high while shooting a children’s show in the fictional town of Port Cockerton. The comedy revolves around the actors as they begin to believe they are characters in the show.
Targeting 25 to 54 year olds – and all those yearning for more Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles-style comedy – the show’s producers have not yet defined what content or brand opportunities will be available, but a spokesperson for Canwest told MiC that they are open to the possibility.
The show is written by Smith, Wells and Tremblay and will be produced by Happy Funtime Productions in association with Showcase and The Canadian Television Fund.
