CTV builds on dance craze with new TV flick

In production now, Turn The Beat Around will debut in 2010.

Building on the success of So You Think You Can Dance, CTV has partnered with MTV US and Protocol Entertainment to release a dance-themed TV movie in 2010.

Turn The Beat Around will follow the life of an up-and-coming dancer played by season one So You Think You Can Dance Canada competitor Romina D’Ugo, and her trials and tribulations running a dance studio in LA. The cast includes two other So You Think You Can Dance Canada first season competitors, and is choreographed by a judge from the show.

Production on the movie started Aug. 17 in Toronto and Hamilton, and wraps on Sept. 10. It will debut in 2010. Details on ad opps were scarce at press time, but CTV spokesperson Sonia Brum assured MiC that ‘CTV is always open to interesting integration and sponsorship opportunities.’

So You Think You Can Dance Canada, as with its American counterpart, has been one of CTV’s most successful shows over the past two years. According to CTV/BBM Neilson Media Research, the Canadian version’s first performance episode on Aug. 25 attracted an average of 1.4 million viewers over its two-hour time slot of 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
