Virgin Mobile is looking for a financially savvy ‘recessionista’ intern who will spend his or her summer blogging, writing stories and conducting interviews with financial experts for their recently launched website, ScrewYouRecession.ca. Candidates who want to qualify must post a video explaining why they’re Canada’s top choice for the job on ScrewYouRecessionIntern.com, where the entries will be voted on by visitors to the site.
Online ads supporting the youth-targeting campaign run until the contest ends on May 15 on Dose.ca, Fashionmagazine.com, Sweetspot.ca, Xyyz.ca and LaineyGossip.com among others. Creative was developed jointly between Virgin’s internal design team and Toronto-based Zig, with media handled by Wills & Co.
‘Job hunting this summer is going to be more difficult than it has been in a long time. This is a one-of-a-kind chance and, except for my job, is probably the coolest gig you can get your hands on,’ Virgin Mobile CMO Nathan Rosenberg says. ‘They’ll represent us at government news conferences and seek out the best money-saving deals.’
After the top five are narrowed down, they’ll be interviewed by Virgin’s team of recession experts. The winner gets $2,000 a month for three months, a new laptop, a Virgin Mobile BlackBerry 3G smartphone, a Flip video camera, and the chance to interview billionaire founder and president of Virgin, Richard Branson. But no lighthouse.
