Roses cut at CBC

Prime-time soap Wild Roses has been weeded from the sked.

The bloom has faded for CBC’s Wild Roses, a one-hour drama about warring families in Alberta now cancelled after a brief rookie season.

The primetime soap, which debuted last January on Tuesday nights with a strong lead-in by The Rick Mercer Report, pulled in modest ratings in the 500,000 range during its 13-part run.

The drama’s cancellation helps makes way for a new slew of CBC series unveiled this week that includes The Ron James Show, Republic of Doyle and the Battle of the Blades competition series.
