For Olympic fans who want to know more about Canadian athletes – from what’s on their iPod to their favourite duds – the Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium launched a series of up-close-and-personal video profiles on TV and online.
In celebration of the official one-year countdown to Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, the 30-second vignettes called ‘Getting To Know Your Athletes’ will run through February 2010, reveal ‘surprising details’ about the personalities and lifestyles of Canada’s top 25. To date they are sponsored by Royal Canadian Mint and McDonald’s, with each sponsor receiving a flash to the brand at the end of the clips. Other sponsors are slated to come on board, and more are welcome for the 125 vignettes that aim to make Canadian athletes household names.
Along the same true-north pride line, Royal Canadian Mint is sponsoring a Top 10 Canadian Olympic Winter Moments, an online feature that allows Canadians to vote for their fave moment until March 25. Descriptions and photos of the top 10 moments to choose from are available online. Two winners will receive a trip for two to the games.
The top three moments will also be featured on 25-cent coins and will likely reach pockets in fall 2009. Results will be broadcast on CTV, TSN and RDS.
