The Screen Actors Guild will boldly go where the Golden Globes and People’s Choice Awards – and maybe even the Oscars – dare not venture. On Jan. 27, a full-bore awards presentation will be broadcast on SUN TV in Canada, and on TBS and TNT south of the border.

For reasons that remain murky, the Writers Guild of America granted the union that represents screen performers the sort of strike-be-damned waiver it refused to give to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its Golden Globe Awards or to the organization that produces the People’s Choice Awards.

The result will be a two-hour broadcast, from 8-10 pm ET on Sunday, Jan. 27, beamed live from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center, and celebrating SAG’s own 75th anniversary. SUN TV will be the sole Canadian broadcaster, carrying the awards across the country on Rogers cable 15, over the air on Channels 52 and 213 on Bell ExpressVu, and Channel 326 on Star Choice.

This will be the third consecutive year SUN TV has carried the SAG Awards. Last year’s show was the most-watched event of the year for the broadcaster.

Among this year’s leading actors with multiple nominations are Cate Blanchett (pictured – Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I’m Not There), Russell Crowe (3:10 To Yuma, American Gangster) and Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, American Gangster). Television nominees include America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), Steve Carell (The Office), Hugh Laurie (House) and Glenn Close (already a Golden Globe winner for Damages).
