Just in time for Christmas, the National Post is joining its major-market brethren with the debut of the new Reader app.
Created for the iPad and iPhone, the free Reader app features a customizable news feed for breaking news, as well as columns and Financial Post content. Stories can be saved for later reading and all include social media sharing functionality.
Air Canada is the exclusive launch partner on the National Post Reader App, an extension of its buy with Postmedia for the mediaco’s other 10 daily news apps. Other launch partners for the major-market apps included Cisco, Rogers Communications and Disney’s Tron: Legacy.
Ad ops on the Reader app include: launch-screen logo placement, tethered bottom bar banner placement, and expandable ad units. Custom executions and story-flow ad interstitials are also available. The new app will be promoted across Postmedia’s media properties.
The Reader app is slightly different than the major-market editions, Jonathan Harris, VP Digital, National Post explains. The apps for the major-market dailies were created specifically for the iPad, and provide a more traditional newspaper experience by focusing on content from the web and print editions, the iPad’s multi-touch interface functionality and its high-resolution display. The National Post Reader app, by comparison, was created for the multiplatform mobile experience and focuses more specifically on breaking news and editorial perspective.
