Treo Smartphones is building its brand into mobile film festival competitions, including Mobifest Toronto 2007. The brand gets a starring role at Mobifest.net, where users can upload 60-second entries until October 31. The most innovative submissions will be screened when the winners are announced in Toronto on November 20. Last year’s Mobifest drew 200 entries globally and recorded 65,000 online film viewings.
Treo is also giving out an award for the best ‘caught on Treo’ short, which must be shot on a Treo Smartphone throughout the day and run under 30 seconds. Eye Weekly has sponsored the best Toronto filmmaker award.
Palm’s Treo also sponsored the Treo Mobile Comedy Film Festival (www.treofilm.com), which accepted its last entries on September 24. A partnership with California-HQ’d MobiTV has the submitted 60-second films running on a one-month free trial at MobiTV.com/treofilm until October 18. Winners at that festival for 60-second films get to attend the October 18 awards show in LA, which will be co-hosted by Susie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and John Henson (TV Guide network, Talk Soup). Henson calls the festival ‘the Oscars for the time-deprived.’
