Company of Women, an Oakville, Ontario-based organization targeting women in business, launched a new quarterly magazine named after itself yesterday. ‘There are few publications out there to support women in building and growing their businesses,’ explains organization founder Anne Day. ‘We’re so busy we need snippets of information, not lengthy articles.’

She adds that ‘a team of seasoned writers’ is already on board. They include Patricia Lovett-Reid, author of several books on women and finances and host of The Money Show, and Peggy Grall, author of Just Change It.

About 5,000 copies of the new publication are being distributed in the Greater Toronto Area, while 3,000 more will be sent out electronically via the organization’s database. The mag is also available online at CompanyofWomen.ca.

Advertisers in the inaugural issue include Soft and Dri, Cogeco, Julia’s Ristorante and the Coffee Office. Other advertisers include Company of Women members, who number about 370 in the GTA.

The magazine will be featured at various events held by Company of Women, including a Fashion Show on September 18 and the Ladies who Launch conference on September 29.

The mag will also reach about 1,775 waiting rooms in doctor’s offices across Canada (70% in Ontario) via Montreal-based Presse Commerce, libraries, retail outlets in the GTA, small business centres in Halton, Hamilton and Mississauga, and members’ own business locations. The organization itself hosts programs, services and monthly dinners, breakfast meetings and trade shows in Oakville, Toronto and Mississauga.

The magazine also has support from the Canadian Association of Women Executives and Entrepreneurs (CAWEE), WINGS Canada, Roaring Women chapters in Brampton and Mississauga, the Oakville Women’s Centre, Toronto’s Verity Club, SOHO Women International, Ladies who Launch, Zonta Club of Oakville, Step Ahead Toronto, Orangeville Women Living Well.
