CBC Newsworld is set to air the first three series of the ratings record-breaker Planet Earth over 13 weeks starting Sunday, June 10 at 8 pm ET. Repeats will air Thursdays, beginning June 14, at 10 pm ET/PT.

The BBC-created show was shot entirely in HD and has been dubbed the ultimate portrait of the planet. It covers everything from the world’s greatest rivers and gorges to the mightiest mountains, and hidden underground caves to vast deserts. The series was recently featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the host’s ‘magnificent obsessions.’

Narrator for the BBC series when it debuted in the UK in 2006 was Sir David Attenborough. In the US, Discovery Channel recruited actress and conservationist Sigourney Weaver to narrate, and aired the series this year in March and April. The show averaged 5.72 million viewers during its first three installments and drew the single largest audience in cable that week – Discovery Channel’s biggest numbers since 2005.
