Montreal-based Transcontinental Media has bought two weekly newspapers in Saskatchewan, The Grenfell Sun and The Broadview Express, from Stone Printing and Publishing. The two weeklies have a total circulation of over 1,700 homes in southern Saskatchewan, and the deal brings Transcontinental’s roster of newspapers in the prairie province to eight.
Transcontinental Media newspaper group SVP Marc-Noel Ouellette says the deal is in line with a ‘long-term strategy to create a greater presence in Saskatchewan with an eventual goal of providing editorial and advertising content to more than 65,000 households in 140 communities.’
Transcontinental Media’s other newspapers in Saskatchewan include the Prince Albert Daily Herald, Moose Jaw Times-Herald, The Radville Star, The Deep South Star, The Triangle News in Coronach, and SouthWest Booster in Swift Current. The media company now owns 167 community papers in total.
