MiC K.I.S.S. Pick: Panasonic touts cameras with musher’s eye view of Iditarod

No need to suit up, trek to Alaska and risk frostbite to enjoy the world's top dogsled race. Just cozy up to a computer instead.

In a classic win/win move, Secaucus, NJ-based Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems is providing the first-ever HD online coverage of the 1,150-mile Iditarod dogsled race. More than 80 teams of human mushers and canine athletes started out in Anchorage on March 4, expecting to make it to Nome in 10 to 17 days.

To capture the action – and show off the capabilities of its new P2 HD cameras – Panasonic launched a website. It is broadcasting footage shot by six video crews equipped with both shoulder-mounted AJ-HPX2000s and hand-held HVX200s.

Web visitors can track the race, view behind-the-scene video and photos, and get some soft sell on the P2 HD products. Footage from the ground as well as airplanes and helicopters will also be supplied to television networks around the world, in three one-hour documentaries for VERSUS (formerly the US version of the Outdoor Life Network).
