Calgary’s alt-weekly Fast Forward Weekly, will be ceasing production of its print version on March 5, following an announcement from publisher Great West Newspapers.

The free weekly has been operating for 19 years, with eight full-time staff, and a circulation of just over 23,000.

The decision to stop printing the weekly was purely based on the lack of advertising dollars, says Drew Anderson, publisher and editor, Fast Forward Weekly. The future of the title’s website, FFWDWeekly.com, is up in the air, but Anderson says there has been an outpouring of support to keep it running since the announcement that that print version would be shutting down.

Anderson says the structure and ownership of the site will be discussed with Great West Newspapers in the next few weeks.
