The Canadian Circulations Audit Board (CCAB) released its annual circulation report this week, coinciding with the release of the 2010 Nadbank Readership Results survey.

Covering Sun Media, Torstar and Transcontinental papers, as well as dailies from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Quebec City and St. John’s, the report is based on circ data from 41 audit reports and circ statements from January to December 2010.

The report shows the Toronto Star holding fairly steady with an average weekday circulation of 381,310 and a peak average circulation on Saturday of 546,819 copies. The figure is a slight drop from 2009, in which the CCAB reported the paper’s average weekday circulation at 390,163. The paper’s average Saturday circ also posted a slight drop, down almost 20,000 copies. For more information on the paper’s readership, see yesterday’s NADbank report.

The Toronto Sun posted a slight gain in its average weekday circulation, with 186,904 copies going out each week. In 2009, its average weekday circ was 178,461. Its highest circulation day is Sunday, on which it averages 268,798 copies.

Transcon’s highest-circ paper, The Telegram from St. John’s, Newfoundland, saw a bit of a drop in its circ, moving from a weekday average of 26,266 copies last year to 24,311 copies this year.

For the first time, CCAB’s circ report also included web metrics for 13 daily newspapers. According to the report, the leading newspaper websites in the category of ‘unique browsers’ were the Toronto Sun at #1 with 3.16 million unique browsers on average per month, the Edmonton Sun at #2 with 616,500 and the Ottawa Sun at #3 with 578,000.
