In a strategy to both give hardcore fans a sneak peak and new fans an introduction, Montreal game developer Ubisoft today released on YouTube the first episode of a three-ep animated video series as a prequel to the Nov. 17 release of its of its new game, Assassin’s Creed II.
The miniseries, called Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, features events that happen before Assassin’s Creed II starts, introduces new characters and gives a back story to the plot line of the new game. Developed by Ubisoft Digital Arts and Ubisoft’s Hybride Technologies studio, the 15-minute videos feature a combination of live action and CGI.
This is the first time that Ubisoft has developed such a project, which came to be as a result of Ubisoft’s aquistion of Hybride Technologies in 2008. The goal is to expand Ubisoft’s brand reach into new mediums and provide gamers with a more ‘immersive experience,’ Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft, stated in a release.
The show will be promoted starting today for 24 hours on YouTube’s homepage in eight countries.
‘The films series is distributed online to reach all Assassin’s Creed‘s fans, but also audiences that are less familiar with the game but would be interested in discovering the Assassin’s Creed‘s universe,’ the release further states.
