TSN tops six million for World Juniors final

The heartbreaking loss for Canada earns the channel a record-breaking audience.

It was a devastating loss for Canada, but a huge win for TSN and RDS as the channels earn a combined average audience of 6.9 million viewers for the final game of the IIHF World Junior Championship.

TSN earned the lion’s share of viewers, picking up an average audience of 6.23 million, the channel’s highest in its history. RDS earned 652,000 viewers on average, its second-highest audience on record.

The game’s dramatic third period drew a peak of 9.3 million viewers on the two channels combined.

The final game wraps up what has become the most-watched World Juniors since TSN started broadcasting the tournament in 1991. The average audience across the seven games featuring Team Canada was 3.2 million viewers.

Online, the number of viewers watching video of the game doubled over last year. Over 800,000 video views and 236,000 live steams were registered for the game, according to Omniture.
