In the rings: CUME Day 3

Alexandre Bilodeau's bid for gold earns 7.3 million viewers, and Sunday is another big day for the Consortium.

It was a watershed moment in Canadian sporting history, and 7.3 million Canadians tuned in for it, according to the latest statistics from Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

The breakdown of Sunday’s statistics revealed that Alexandre Bilodeau’s mogul gold medal win was one of the most-watched events in Canadian sporting history, a release stated, peaking at 9.7 million viewers during the broadcast.

Five million tuned in to see Kristina Groves win her bronze medal in long-track speed skating. In total, 26.5 million people watched Consortium media coverage of the Olympics on Sunday. Men’s biathalon and pairs figure skating also did well, delivering more than three million viewers each.

The CUME index, combining viewership statistics across four media, indicated that 30.8 million people have now experienced the Games in some form via Consortium media.

1. Freestyle skiing, men’s moguls: 7.3 million (CTV, V/CPAC, RDS, OMNI.2 ON, OMNI AL, OMNI BC)
2. Long track, ladies 3000m final: 5 million (CTV, V/CPAC, RDS)
3. Biathlon, men’s 10km sprint: 3.3 million (CTV, RDS)
4. Figure skating, pairs short program: 3.2 million (CTV, V/CPAC, Sportsnet)
5. Nordic combined, individual NH/10km: 1.8 million (CTV, Sportsnet, RDS)
