Music dominated this summer as Canadians spread the wealth across an eclectic array of formats. Looking at share of hours tuned for all listeners 12+, many top stations showed slim declines from the spring numbers but remained strong.
In Toronto, talk formats slipped although listeners kept abreast of weather, traffic, and information with 680 News, which jumped from 4.2% to 5.5%. Q107 and 98.1 CHFI-FM gained while 104.5 CHUM-FM, 97.3 EZ Rock, and News Talk 1010 CFRB fell.
Jack FM 96.9 had a modest increase in Vancouver in the number-two slot while market leader CKNW slipped 1.7 points. Z95.3 FM showed the biggest gains with 7.5% versus 6.1% in the spring.
Montreal’s number-one CITE Rock Détente gained, 10.8% from 9.3%, but so did 105.7 Rythme FM, which is hot on its heels at 10.6% up from 8.9% in the spring.
In Calgary, 96.9 Jack FM kept the number-one slot but lost four points to sixth place Q107 which moved up from 3.6% to 7.1%. Country 105, CJ 92, and QR77 also showed gains.
Power 92 in Edmonton is in top spot with no change from spring to summer although number-two station 630 CHED lost 1.7% share.
The top six stations in Ottawa-Hull all showed modest gains with Majic 100 retaining the lead.
In Winnipeg, the top four stations were up with number two Power 97 moving from 8.8% to 10.0%, and 99.9 BOB FM in number four spot jumping from 7.6% to 8.7%.
