New corporate brand and high-profile hires at CanWest

CanWest Global Communications has realigned its Canadian operations under a new corporate brand - CanWest MediaWorks. All newspapers, TV and radio operations as well as Web-based, music, book publishing and merchandising units fall under this banner, but no change will be seen in branding of individual properties such as Global Television Network or its various newspapers.
Rick Camilleri, formerly COO (operations), has been named president of CanWest MediaWorks while former COO (corporate) Thomas Strike is now president of CanWest MediaWorks International. The Winnipeg-based company's international operations in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland come under the CanWest MediaWorks International umbrella.

Rick Camilleri, formerly COO (operations), has been named president of CanWest MediaWorks while former COO (corporate) Thomas Strike is now president of CanWest MediaWorks International. The Winnipeg-based company’s international operations in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland come under the CanWest MediaWorks International umbrella.

CanWest has also imported some new talent. These appointments include Kathleen Dore as president, Television and Radio. Dore was previously president, Entertainment Services for Rainbow Media Holdings responsible for US cable networks AMC, IFC and Women’s Entertainment. Before that she was president of Bravo Networks (U.S.).

Michael Williams takes on the role of president, Publications. Williams comes from The New York Times where he had been VP and CIO for The New York Times Company and the newspaper.

Joseph Mangione is the new president, sales and marketing. He was recently SVP at Time Warner, responsible for multi-platform integrated sales and marketing in the U.S. He has also been SVP at Turner Broadcasting and in senior positions in publishing at Better Homes and Gardens and Playboy magazine.

Peter Ashkin has moved to CanWest as SVP, Digital Content from America Online where he was EVP, Digital Media Services. He had also been SVP and CTO at Gateway Computer. Arturo Duran has been name SVP, Interactive. Duran was also formerly with AOL where he held senior posts in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. CanWest Media Sales president Jack Tomik is no longer with the company; as well, VP production Lauren Mawhinney and SVP programming & promotions Doug Hoover have also departed.
