Planet Africa magazine makes launch official in Toronto

The Planet Africa TV series is extending its brand to print. Looking to reach African Canadian urban professionals, Ottawa-based Silvertrust Communications network - which specializes in award shows, development forums and a television series - has launched a niche mag with the same moniker.

Ottawa-based production company Silvertrust Communications has launched a magazine version of its Planet Africa brand. The glossy quarterly mag targets African Canadian urban professionals aged 25-65 with current events, fashion, sports, health, finance and politics – building on the company’s established TV show of the same name.

The magazine’s 104-page premiere issue was given a soft launch Sept. 2006, but the pub is celebrating its official coming out in Toronto on Feb. 22 with the release of its third issue featuring Hollywood star Danny Glover on its cover.

Advertisers on board include RBC Royal Bank, Zavic Realty, Airliner, Lion’s Gate Entertainment, Western Union and Pantages Hotel.

Planet Africa magazine will reach out to an estimated 10,000 readers Canada-wide. About 40% of the readers are in Ontario. The magazine is distributed on newsstands through Indigo/Chapters, International News, Great Canadian News and select Wal-Mart stores.

The Planet Africa television program, launched in Sept. 2002, airs three times a week on Rogers OMNI Television in Toronto, London and Ottawa and reaches roughly 23,000 English-speaking Africans in Toronto.
