CHUM takes over Vancouver’s hit radio chart-topper

On the west coast's radio dial, CHUM already had a firm hold in sports, news talk and soft favourites. Now, the company's adding the number one spot on the dial for the 18-34 set.

CHUM is rounding out its radio assets in Vancouver by buying The Beat Broadcasting Corporation, which owns and operates CFBT-FM (The Beat 94.5 FM) – a contemporary hits station that ranks number one in the adults and females 18-34 demo. The buy is subject to regulatory approval by the CRTC.

If approved, the purchase will complement CHUM’s existing roster of radio programming in Vancouver. Currently, the company owns soft favourites channel 103.5 QM-FM, news talk channel CFUN 1410 and the dial’s on-air home of the Vancouver Canucks, The TEAM 1040.

CHUM Radio president Paul Ski says the company’s purchase of The Beat is a ‘strategic addition to our radio division. With the acquisition of Vancouver’s No.1 hit music station, CHUM will be able to offer a compelling variety of services.’
