Slice’s next vice: lather, rinse, compete

Alliance Atlantis' newest brand hits the salon for a reality series about hair, and seeks Canadian dreamers for a new late Fall entry.

Slice Network is premiering Shear Genius on May 14 in the Monday 10 pm ET/PT time slot. Hair stylists compete elimination-style for the title of, yes, Shear Genius – plus $100,000 in seed money from Nexxus, and the opp to style hair for a feature story in Allure magazine.

The eight-ep reality series is hosted by former ‘Charlie’s Angel’ and actress/designer/entrepreneur Jaclyn Smith, who’s joined by celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger and various guest judges with coiffure industry clout. Slice VP content Vanessa Case says the net’s viewers ‘love it when we pull back the curtain to reveal the inner workings of glamourous industries.’

For the fall, the guilty-pleasure-for-women net is planning a 26-ep half-hour series starring Liza Fromer, former co-host of Citytv’s Breakfast Television, that aims to get Canadians accomplishing their wacky and all-but-forgotten dreams. In The List, set for debut in October, Fromer will participate in adventures Canadians across the country think up, from joining the circus to wing-walking on an airplane to singing in a superstar rock band. The series comes from Montreal- and Toronto-based Cineflix Productions, and Slice is calling on viewers to nominate themselves or family members via email or www.slice.ca/about/castingcall.
