Bidding for the naming rights for what’s being touted as a famous future landmark is expected to heat up since BC’s Whistler Blackcomb ski resort handed the search process to IMG this week.
What’s on offer is naming rights for the resort’s Peak to Peak Gondola, which will connect Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and break world records for length and height. Construction is skedded to begin later this month. When it’s completed next year, it will boast 28 ‘sky cabins’ and carry up to 4,100 passengers per hour – 4.4 kilometres in just 11 minutes.
‘In our mind, the Peak to Peak Gondola will be recognized as an engineering marvel and a true landmark, much like a Golden Gate Bridge or CN Tower,’ says Brad Pelletier, VP/MD of Toronto-based IMG Canada.
