Corus buys Quebec rock station

And it's paying more than a million for CIGR-FM as part of its growth strategy in la belle province.

Corus Entertainment has bought Sherbrooke radio station CIGR-FM for about $1.1 million from Groupe Generation Rock. The deal, announced yesterday, is subject to CRTC approval.

Corus Entertainment president and CEO John Cassaday says the company is strengthening its radio presence in Quebec, and Génération Rock will offer a companion to its heritage news-talk station, CHLT-AM, in the Estrie region. The news-talk station is switching to the FM dial at the end of June.
