MediaCom promotes Ploughman, Checkeris

MediaCom Canada has shuffled its cards and Canada came out on top of the deck.

Doug Checkeris has been named the new CEO of MediaCom USA, effective Oct. 1, succeeding Dene Callas, who is moving into the newly created role of global director of creative for MediaCom Worldwide. MediaCom Worldwide CEO Alexander Schmidt-Vogel also announced a new president and executive committee, as well as a new organizational structure, for MediaCom Canada and its operating brands – MBS, The Media Company, Publicite MBS and Le Groupe TMC – on Friday.

Amanda Ploughman was promoted to act as president/CEO of MediaCom Canada, effective Oct. 1. Ploughman came to MBS earlier this year from her previous role as EVP of business development at New York’s Initiative. She was president of Initiative Canada from 2002 to 2005 and also served on the Canadian Media Director’s Council.

Immediate promotions were also announced for Sylvia Criger, Gloria Di Ioia, Maura Hanley, Karin Macpherson, Jeanne Northcote and Michele Pauchuk, who will act as managing directors. Marilyn Dixon remains as Chief Operating Officer of MediaCom Canada.

Outgoing MediaCom Canada co-presidents/CEOs David Campbell and Checkeris will work closely with this team through a transition period over the next few months. Campbell was recently tapped to take on the new position of president/CEO of GroupM Canada (click here for MiC‘s coverage).

MediaCom’s 2006 billings in Canada reached $US 787 million, according to Recma.
