MTV and HP get consumers making art

Cute coloured notebook computers? That's old news. Consumer-generated laptop art is on the way.

MTV and HP have launched a global competition that will get consumers creating graphics for the design of a new HP notebook computer. The ‘Take Action, Make Art’ competition asks consumers to submit ideas relating to fashion, the environment, etc.

The competition will be promoted by on-air and online activities across MTV’s global network, directing viewers to a custom MTV and HP website, www.mtv-tama.com, until October 17. MTV viewers can also log on and vote for their favourite designs to win HP products.

The winning design will be used on a special-edition HP Pavilion notebook PC, which is expected to hit the market in March 2008. The winner also gets to attend the MTV Europe Music Awards in Germany, as well as HP sites in Tokyo and Houston. Runners-up will get their designs made into adhesive notebook skins that will be available to consumers.
