Canwest local directory teams with Ottawa Senators

The popularity of hometown hockey stars is being leveraged to boost go!Local Ottawa, the first edition of the 'alternative' directories.

The first of a planned series of ‘alternative’ local community directories, Canwest’s go!Local Ottawa bowed last August, and its second edition is being prepped now, with ad opps open in both the print and online versions.

To boost awareness and signal commitment to the community by supporting a local favourite, Canwest is teaming with the Ottawa Senators in a contest dubbed ‘The Great Sens Giveaway.’ For the hockey team’s March 22 game versus Toronto and April 1 match against Montreal, hockey fans are being invited to enter online to win a gallery-level suite for 20 with $500 in catering or a pair of ’08/’09 season tickets.

go!Local Ottawa leveraged the Senators’ Jan. 31 home game, handing out 2,500 glovebox-sized mini versions of the Community Pages publicationwere at Scotiabank Place. The directory is further building on this presence, unveiling in-stadium signage throughout the building.

Beginning Feb. 11, with creative developed in-house at Canwest, the initiative will be supported with ads in Canwest newspapers The Ottawa Citizen, Rush Hour (print and online), golocalottawa.ca and (geo-targeted on) canada.com. And when equivalent directories are published in Regina and Saskatoon this spring, The Leader-Post and The Star Phoenix will promote the efforts.

go!Local Ottawa was created to help consumers easily find exactly what they’re looking for, while supporting their community and local economy,’ said Canwest Directories president Gary Campbell. ‘We’re building on that commitment as a proud partner of hometown favourites the Ottawa Senators, and we look forward to working with community organizations and teams across the country in our go!Local regions.’
