Youth nets launch summer tours

YTV and Teletoon are hitting the road to engage viewers with interactive events (and taking some sponsors along for the ride), while Family Channel is about to put Camp Rock online and on-demand.

Interactive gaming and live previews are some of what YTV and Teletoon have planned for engaging kids with their brands this summer.

YTV’s WOW crew is traveling across Canada from June 13 until Labour Day and will be tailoring interactive entertainment for kids aged six to 14. General Mills is sponsoring The Dunkaroos Slam Zone, which is new to the tour this year, while Hasbro’s Mission NERF will give kids a chance to win prizes in the sun. Viewers will also participate in the cosmic game of catch in Cosmic Keep Away.

The cross-country Teletoon 2008 Tour kicks off on June 27, with toymaker Spin Master, Cookie Jar Entertainment and Bell ExpressVu as sponsors. The tour will feature games, trivia, prizes and promos for the Teletoon and Teletoon Retro fall schedules. ExpressVU will give participations PVR demos, as well as a Bell ExpressVu Game Galaxy interactive game in the teletoon.com Play Tent.

Participants will be able to pose within an exclusive Game Galaxy background in the Teletoon Photo Booth. Cookie Jar will preview its action comedy series by putting Prince Nestor of World of Quest in the photo booth, while Johnny Test will be part of an animated stage show.

Astral Media’s latest summer promo will see Family Channel stream a full-length movie, Camp Rock, online at 8 pm ET on July 4. Family.ca currently attracts nearly a million unique visitors per month. Family OnDemand will offer a preview of the movie on June 17. Camp Rock Rock-Along, a special version of the film that encourages viewers to sing along, will air on July 4 at 7:30 pm ET/PT.

Kids can learn about the music biz this July on YTV’s new series The Next Star, which airs July 18 at 6 pm. The show will take you on the journey of six kids who will be trained to become stars. At the end of the series, one contestant will sign a contract with Universal Music Canada. Also, H2O: Just Add Water is another summer series that will premiere on July 3 at 6:30 pm.
