Cineplex launches online community

Debuting yesterday, mycineplex aims to be 'built by movie fans for movie fans,' giving them not only cinema news but a forum for exchanging views, plus online and mobile ticketing.

Yesterday, Toronto-HQ’d Cineplex Entertainment announced yet another innovation: the launch of an online social networking movie and entertainment community – mycineplex.com for English speakers and moncineplex for francophones.

The aim, explains Pat Marshall, VP communications and investor relations, is for the new website to be ‘a community built by movie fans for movie fans. Movies and entertainment news are a central part of the social experience, and mycineplex provides entertainment and movie lovers with a new community to exchange their views.’

After free registration, mycineplex users can rate, review and comment on movies, become fans of members and theatres, tag and bookmark interesting content, upload photos and participate in user-generated contests. As well, mycineplex members will have access to exclusive services, promotions, entertainment blogs and e-newsletters as well as online and mobile ticketing.

Future expansion will include video upload capabilities, a Facebook Fan Page and an enhanced e-commerce site.
