Teletoon houses Marvel Animation

The US comics giant teams up with the Canadian tooncaster in a multi-year TV deal that includes small-screen rights.

Teletoon Canada and Marvel Animation have signed a multi-year output deal that sees Teletoon become the new home of Marvel Animation in Canada. The agreement sees English and French markets graced by Marvel super heroes this spring on Teletoon and Teletoon Retro.

The broadcast deal for over 180 episodes of first-run animation includes rights for additional platforms including broadband, video-on-demand, mobile and other online opportunities. Based on Marvel characters like Iron Man, The Avengers and Wolverine, the first-run shows will air on Teletoon in the prime Sunday morning action block and be stripped after school in the weekday sched. Marvel stunts and specials will also appear in the night-time Teletoon Detour block.

According to Len Cochrane, president of Teletoon Canada, the partnership with Marvel is central to building dominance with boys 2-11 and drawing more young adults who have grown up with the Marvel Universe. Eric Rollman, president, Marvel Animation, adds that the deal will strengthen Marvel’s awareness across all media platforms: ‘This will allow all of our partners in licensing and at retail to lock in long-range planning strategies.’

Teletoon and Teletoon Retro currently air Marvel titles such as the classic Spider-Man, and the new series The Spectacular Spider-Man.
