Perez Hilton goes mobile

New cross-platform app delivers the celeb gossip king's goods to mobile users across Canada.

Perez Hilton’s juicy celebrity rumour mill is now available on-demand to mobile consumers in Canada through a new iPhone and iPod Touch application, developed by Astral Media Radio GP’s Toronto-based radio syndication co, Orbyt Media. Released today, Radio Perez Mobile is the first in a series of high-profile content dev plans for the Canadian mobile consumer market as part of the company’s overall cross-platform approach to content, according to Orbyt Media president Jean-Marie Heimrath. What’s more, the mobile offering, available to consumers through the iTunes app store, has been designed to allow for national sponsor branding.

Celebrity news hounds can now tap www.radioperez.ca in a smartphone’s web browser to get their fill instantly. The mobile website, designed to work with the current generation of smartphones, is free to download to iPhone and iPod Touch on the Orbyt Media-developed app which supplies celebrity gossip vignettes, RSS headlines from www.perezhilton.com and selected Perez photos. The app is also programmed to leverage iPhone’s GPS technology and promote affiliated radio stations broadcasting within 30 km of each listener’s location.

Radio Perez segments can be heard daily on over 20 stations across Canada.

In 2008, the Perez Hilton site outranked MySpace as one of the top five sites among college-aged women, according to eMarketer. In 2007, Forbes Magazine declared Hilton the #2 Web Celebrity of the Year, and The Observer hailed the site as one of the six most powerful blogs in the world.
