Gold Medal Plates: The Quest for Canada’s Best Chef is a seven-part one-hour doc series that follows chefs competing for the top rung of the culinary podium. GE and Epcor are the title sponsors of the competition, which sees chefs paired with an Olympic or Paralympic athlete to assist in the cooking or plating of the dishes. A fundraiser for the Canadian Olympic Foundation, the competition has added $2.3 million to the pot since launching in 2004.
Targeting women aged 24 to 49, the show airs Sundays at 8 pm ET/9 pm PT starting May 10 on Travel + Escape, which reaches over 900,000 Canadian homes. Full eps of the series will be available one week after broadcast on Travelandescape.ca, which will also feature chef bios and photo galleries of all the dishes.
Gold Metal Plates features 60 chefs competing in six cities – Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver – drawing 500 to 700 people per culinary heat, and the regional gold medal winners move on to the national finals.
