Yo Gabba Gabba! launches Facebook-integrated contest

Through a social media contest, fans can win the chance to have their talents on display during the Kia-sponsored live tour of the show.

Musical preschool series Yo Gabba Gabba! is set to launch its Facebook-integrated Cool Tricks contest that invites fans across Canada and the US to upload a 30- to 60-second video demonstrating their talents and skills.

Participants can upload their videos until Dec. 12 to Facebook and winners are determined by public vote in each tour market. Within 10 minutes of the Aug. 18 launch, the contest had more than 100 submissions, explains Caren Bell, VP of communications at Miami-based S2BN Entertainment Corporation, which owns the series.

Entrants will have their winning videos played during intermission at the KIA Motors Presents Yo Gabba Gabbe! Live!: There’s A Party In My City! show closest to their hometown.

The psychedelic show is popular with parents and young adults because of the 1970s-inspired songs performed by the funnily shaped characters. The marketing team wanted to develop a campaign that would be national but yet have a local twist, Bell says.

‘We always have parents asking us, ‘how do I get my kid up on the screen?” Bell tells MiC. Developed internally by the brand, the contest will be promoted virally and through a Facebook ad buy.

Because Yo Gabba Gabba! often includes rock stars as guests, it’s most popular among dads, which is the target demo for the contest, Bell adds.

Consumers can also receive a five-night trip for four to the Caribbean or Mexico and US$100 worth of organic baby food. The Cool Tricks contest is named after the popular segment on the TV series where children and adults show off their special talent or skill.

KIA Motors Yo Gabba Gabba! tour will make stops in 60 cities across North America starting on August 27 in Bethel, NY and ending in Dallas, TX on Dec. 12.
