Jersey Shore fist-pumps to record numbers

Thursday's episode was the most-watched of the series and the second most-watched episode of any show on MTV Canada, the network says.

MTV Canada viewers got their GTL (gym, tanning, laundry) done early last Thursday and made it home in time to catch Jersey Shore, making it the most-watched episode of the show and the second most-watched single episode of any show in the station’s history, a release from the network announced yesterday.

The show attracted a total audience of 486,000, three-quarters of which (362,000) were in the 12-to-34 demo (BBM Canada, Aug 26, 2010, 10 p.m., P2+). Suiting to its young demo, the show is also doing well online on MTV.ca, where it’s racked up almost seven million viewers (as per Omniture) over its first four weeks.

Last Thursday’s ratings-winning episode treated viewers to a plotline that included an anonymous letter, a break-up and three of the men successfully returning home with four women. In next week’s cliffhanger, the anonymous note leads to a fight among the women, and two cast members partner up.
