Pattison helps curlers score sponsors

The OOH co has donated inventory to the Olympic medal-winning Calgary Curling Club, allowing the club to post its plea for sponsorship around the city.

The sign, really, says it all: ‘Team sponsor wanted! Hurry hard!’

Posted across Calgary, Alberta, on Pattison-owned billboards, the plea is part of an advertising campaign by the Calgary Curling Club soliciting sponsorships for its upcoming competitive season. The campaign has already drawn the attention of four ‘major’ brands for potential sponsorships, George Karrys, owner and publisher of The Curling News, told MiC this morning.

Despite winning a silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, the team is without title sponsorship for its 2011 season and is scrambling to find a new partner after an unnamed sponsor withdrew its commitment.

The OOH campaign, which features the above tagline and a picture of the team – including skip Cheryl Bernard, Susan O’Connor, Carolyn McRorie and Corie Morris – will appear in Calgary from Oct. 10 to Nov. 15.

The billboards will appear, in one-week runs, on Memorial Drive, Macleod Trail and Glenmore Trail. The space was donated by Pattison as an in-kind contribution to the team.

‘We’ve been in business in Calgary for 80 years. We like to think that we’re a part of the community, so when there are people like that who are going above and beyond to represent Canada at the elite level, we want to do whatever we can to support them,’ Brian de Ruiter, VP and GM, Prairie region, Pattison Outdoor, tells MiC. ‘That’s really what it is – just trying to be a good neighbour to the people that we live with.’
