Two of Shaw’s specialty channels are giving viewers reasons to stay home this winter. HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada released winter schedules and are kicking off the new year with a week of premieres, showcasing new seasons and new shows.
On HGTV there are six new series, with two new Canadian productions.
Sarah 101, on Tuesdays at 9 p.m., featuring Canadian designer Sarah Richardson, is a crash course on the basics of good design. Design DNA, on Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m., will showcase three famous or infamous pieces of home design and show how they were created from conception to finished product. Both shows debut on Jan. 4. Sponsorship opportunities are available for both.
The channel is also bringing three British shows to Canadian TVs. Professional Grade, airing Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., starting Jan. 6, shows regular homeowners trying to achieve professional renovation results. Cracking Antiques, on Fridays at 8:30 p.m., starting Jan. 7, brushes off antiques and shows what makes them special. Property Ladder UK, on Fridays at 9 p.m., starting Jan. 7, is a house-flipping show featuring amateur buyers.
Color Splash: Miami, a US show, starts airing on HGTV Canada Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 8. In the show, designer David Bromstad transforms ordinary rooms using inspiration found in his hometown of Miami.
On Food Network Canada, the new seasons start Jan. 3 with the return of two Canadian productions: Glutton for Punishment at 7:30 p.m. and Pitchin’ In at 10 p.m., both on Mondays through the winter.
Later that week, the channel is airing several Canadian premieres.
On Jan. 4 at 9 p.m., 24 Hour Restaurant Battle will feature dueling teams that have one day to open a one-night-only restaurant. Mexican Made Easy, on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., starts Jan. 5, and Cupcake Wars will start its run with bakers facing off on Jan. 6 at 9 p.m.
Cook Yourself Thin, based on a British series and the book by the same name, will feature a trio of experts teaching a guest how to get a better body through smart cooking. It’ll be on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. starting Jan. 7.
On Sundays at 6 p.m., starting on Jan. 9, The Delicious Miss Dahl will air. Each episode has a theme, such as romance and nostalgia, and Sophie Dahl shares stories while preparing food based on the theme.
