Corus acquires minority stake in B5Media

The company builds on its women's portfolio with the acquisition, which includes three websites targeted to different life stages.

Corus is expanding its focus on women’s media with a minority stake in online publisher B5Media.

B5Media’s three websites, Crushable.com, TheGloss.com and Blisstree.com, all focus on different female target demos, based loosely on a woman’s different life stages. The tiered approach to the demographic matches Corus’s own approach, which includes specialty channels W Network, Cosmopolitan TV, VIVA, W Movies and the new OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

‘B5Media offers an impressive range of high-quality digital content that aligns well with our lifestyle brands,’ John Cassaday, president and CEO, Corus Entertainment, said in a release. ‘This strategic investment in B5Media gives us an opportunity to extend our reach and expand our knowledge base in the online and mobile digital space.’

The B5Media websites are blog-style in format and feature both staff-written and reader-submitted editorial content. According to the sites, B5Media is open to ‘integrated and highly customized’ advertising programs.
